Architecture

Utilizing patented algorithms, the (B)n’s system validates claims, verifies insurance benefits, submits the claim, tracks the charge, and verifies the proper payment, all automatically. Rather than extending existing approaches and systems, (B)n applied processes and software tools previously utilized for automating complex financial processes, such as bond trading. Leveraging state-of-the-art intelligent computing, decades of medical billing expertise, and Internet connectivity, (B)n has created an engine to dramatically increase efficiencies of the entire billing process.

(B)n
’s key aspects, namely, Straight Through Billing and Transparency, require effective workflow management, knowledge base validation system, and connectivity to all process participants, including on-line reconciliation and tracking. Accordingly, the (B)n platform is a three-tier enterprise application:

» The back-end processing engine was derived from Straight Through Processing systems built for high-volume transaction processing environments in Financial Services firms.
» The middle-tier uses Java Servlet technology.
» The front-end is an HTML-JavaScript zero-footprint client.

The application is hosted on multiple Linux servers, providing high availability and fast performance. It processes millions of rules per claim at an average rate of 500 claims per second across multiple processors. All batch processing is ACID compliant, delivering maximum reliability for critical financial transaction processing.

Straight Through Billing

Based upon Straight Through Processing systems utilized by the Financial Industry, Straight Through Billing automates the majority of the claim flow and focuses the billing follow-up specialists to exceptions only. The process flags problems in early stages, routes them for follow up, and enables online correction and resubmission.

Straight Through Billing expedites payments by enabling simultaneous processing of multiple claims and includes electronic claim submission, digital payer response reconciliation, rule-based claim classification into separate work queues for efficient follow-up task allocation according to error codes or payer/provider ID, and personnel productivity tracking.

Data Protection

(B)n
takes data security very seriously. Data is secured according to HIPAA standards and is safe-guarded in one of the nation's top performing and top security data centers, sharing both space and standards for redundancy and security with first-tier financial institutions and hospitals.

(B)n
is hosted at the 35,000 square feet MFN-run data facility. Disaster recovery is facilitated by two redundant secondary sites. Comprehensive backups are performed nightly at both sites. The data center is built upon a multiple dedicated OC192 back-bone and uses redundant power and network architecture, sophisticated and multi-faceted security systems, and high-tech fire suppression. A highly trained staff is available on-site 24x7.
